francesca woodman

Francesca Woodman was a young American photographer whose work I found to be really inspiring. She is mostly a self portrait photographer and works a lot with long exposure times and blurred images. After seeing her work and hearing her story I was inspired to take some pictures with some of her images in mind. I really liked the clothes she wore and tried to incorporate that in mine as well as her hair.

In this photograph I tried to reflect the fish bones that
Woodman is holding with the braid down my back instead,

  1. I like how you took another photographers idea and made it your own. I think that which each photograph is representing that of someone else's, they really stand out on their own. I would have thought that were very well done, even without knowing what they referenced to. Great job!

  2. I love this! You did an awesome job recreating the shots. Props on the small changes, they definitely work. I envy anyone who can take good self portraits.

  3. These pictures are very well done! I like how accurately you redid her photographs. The long exposure picture is my favorite. I like how you took your picture outside in the snow instead of trying to match the background she did. Great work!

  4. I really like how this came out! They photos were your own style yet you still got who your replicating. The lighting and composition are really good. Nice Job!

  5. Rachel,
I really like how you put the two images next to each other. It was a nice way to compare the two different perspectives. Your composition and lighting enhance and make your images stand out. Eventhough you changed some details in the pictures, you put a "modern day spin" onto older images.

  6. I love how you were able to capture that sense of movement and ambiguity that a Francesca Woodman photograph usually possesses. By including a side-by-side of her images and your own in your blog, you have really illustrated how successful your attempt really was! Great Images!

  7. Amazing self portraits! It's great how you modeled your pictures off of those of another artist while keeping your own unique feel to them. Normally I'm not a fan of self portraiture but these truly are awesome, great job.

  8. There's a reason why she is world renowned and you aren't.... Don't quit your day job. You should focus on developing your own point of view instead of trying to rip off someone else's.
