Photographer As Editor

This assignment was enlightening. I like the idea of having someone else see your images before you choose your best, especially when there are 100 pictures to choose from. These next 3 photos are about myself.
This picture is of the objects that were on my desk.  I am  obviously
messy and unorganized.

I like the  reflection you can see in the frames.
A little bit Lee Friedlander? I also like the irony that
this image is of picture frames and this is a photograph.

Also just objects I own. I liked the background color.

These next few images were from the category of our choice and I decided to make that "Flowers" to try to liven up this icy weather.
This was actually taken in a craft store, all of these flowers are fake.
They were arranged by color. I have a few more groups of colored flowers like this
in pink, purple and blue; however this one was my favorite.

This is in my car. I have a Volkswagon Beetle and I liked how you
can see the snow covering my windshield.

For some reason I have a mannequin hand lieing around my room.
The sun was shining in my window really nicely so I put it to use.

francesca woodman

Francesca Woodman was a young American photographer whose work I found to be really inspiring. She is mostly a self portrait photographer and works a lot with long exposure times and blurred images. After seeing her work and hearing her story I was inspired to take some pictures with some of her images in mind. I really liked the clothes she wore and tried to incorporate that in mine as well as her hair.

In this photograph I tried to reflect the fish bones that
Woodman is holding with the braid down my back instead,

Newark Museum

I visited the Newark Museum this weekend, it's a really interesting place. "The City and Modernism" displayed paintings and photographs that showed the excitement of new technology in America. I saw two sets of Berenice Abbott's photographs from her long-term project Changing New York. It was nice to see them up close in person.

Obsession

For the obsession assignment we had to take 100 photographs of the same type of idea, theme or composition. The theme I chose was 'Snow' however I think it could also be considered 'Winter'.  I like the bus driving past in the last image. I took a bunch of these with all different cars passing through the picture plane but the bus stood out the most to me. It may feel off balance the vehicle is off to the left, but I like it anyway. I also like the kind of peaceful Christmas/snow scene being interrupted by this bus. I also realized that some of my images of branches in snow echo one of Harry Callahan's photographs below.
